How is the community organisedOrganized in clans. There are five clans;the Mnene, Mzirai, Mrutu, Mndighiri and Msuya clans. A few chosen elders (men only)from the clans belong to a traditional leaders setup called Njama which normally solve social disputes and land issues. They also have to be consulted when it comes to political participation of their clan members or on sensitive issues of the community.
Where can more information be found (website, publications, other documents)Besides the Njama elders, there is Kiramku Chedi, a registered association which deals with the development of language. It has about 10-20 members consisting of men and women who endevour to work with any researchers interested in Kitaveta language and help to get required information. In fact, the association is the entry point because its members are the ones who consult with Taveta elders(Njama) when it comes to people wishing to get inside information about the community. I am a member of this association and provide a leading role in organising for any activity in relation to Kitaveta language and participate in Kitaveta language and cultural activities. Kiramku Chedi, therefore, carry out activities related to the language, education and culture and usually participate in various community activities mostly after consulting with the traditional Njama elders.
